Alien prequel gets the green light

In further proof that Hollywood is fresh out of ideas and hopelessly entangled in ‘recycle’ mode, Twentieth Century Fox has confirmed plans for an ‘Alien’ re-tread.

After the global success of a ‘Star Wars’ reboot, Fox are now crafting a prequel to ‘Alien,’ the 1979 Oscar-winning tale that launched Sigourney Weaver’s career…and global insomnia. And Ridley Scott – the original’s director – has agreed to be back at the helm.

Having successfully pitched Fox the idea, unknown writer Jon Spaihts has been awarded the  task of crafting the prequel, which according to Variety will once more concern the crew of the spaceship, Nostromo. Awakened from interstellar slumber to respond to an automatic distress call they misread the signal, and from the moment they land it’s a whole heap of trouble.

Three [awful] sequels were made to cash-in on the box-office bounty of the original film [now widely regarded as one of the best horror/suspense movies to ever get made,] but this is the first time that Ridley’s consented to be back in charge.

No production dates or details are available yet, but we’ll bring you that news as it comes.
