Attorney: Michael Jackson’s mother to retain permanent custody of his kids
According to her lawyer, Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine Jackson will get custody of the late pop star’s three children, avoiding a bitter custody battle, after reaching a agreement with her son’s ex-wife Debbie Rowe. In the arraignment Debbie Rowe, the mother of Prince and Paris — will retain parental rights but will not try for custody. She also gets no extra money. The biological mother of Jackson’s third child, Prince Michael II, 7, also known as Blanket, a product of artificial insemination has never been revealed.
“It’s an agreement, an agreement for the best interests of the children. This is not a money deal. This is not about money,” Londell McMillan, Katherine Jackson’s attorney, said in a an interview on CBS News’ “The Early Show.”
“All of the parties are resolved. There is no situation better for these children than for them to be raised and reared in the loving care of Mrs. Katherine Jackson,” he said.
A judge still needs to approve the deal at a hearing in Los Angeles on Monday.
Jackson disclosed in his 2002 will that he wanted his mother to care for the children if he died. Jackson’s mother, Katherine, was thereby granted temporary custody of the children after his death on June 25. Do you think at the age of 79, Katherine is the right choice to raise these kids, who have already had their only caregiver die?
The coroner’s report on the cause of the singer’s death is still awaiting toxicology and other test results, prompting a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to say on Wednesday that the final verdict on what killed the 50-year-old pop star will not be announced until next week. Of course with the many leaks in the case we will probably be hearing something unofficial but ‘from an unnamed official source any time now.
