Jon Gosselin’s new lady exploiting his fame?

As we said yesterday, Michael Lohan sees Jon Gosselin’s romantic link-up with ‘Star’ writer, Kate Major as an ideal match, but many who know the 26-year old journo are not quite so sure.

Sources close to the couple say Kate is just using Jon to finally achieve the fame she always thought she deserves. “Kate has always wanted to be a celebrity,” says one pal. “Now she’s getting her 15-minutes.”

And her motives got stranger on Thursday, when the ex-Fairfield U student resigned from her job at the down-market tabloid, claiming a ‘conflict of interest’ between work obligations and her [disputed] relationship with 32-year old Jon.

So is Jon being used? Daddy Lohan thinks not: The couple are staying at his Southampton apartment, and Michael thinks Jon has brought his best game, “Jon is a great guy. He’s on the phone with his kids all the time, and he’s got a lot on his plate right now. He needs the right people around him – people who are there to help, not just for the money. And Kate is one of those people.”

Folks who know Kate rather better seemed eager to learn just what Michael was smoking; “Kate has always wanted to be on TV.” a close pal told the News. “She was a talking head at ‘Star,’ and desperately wanted to work as ‘Real Housewives’ star, Kim Zolciak’s PA. It didn’t matter how she got there – she just wanted to be in the spotlight.”

In other news, Jon’s former [?] squeeze, Hailey Glassman, has been nowhere in sight since the news about Kate 2.0. Jon has strongly denied that Kate’s his new  lady, but this story’s not over so let’s see where it goes…
