Tarzan’s ‘Jane’ Brenda Joyce dies aged 92
Actress Brenda Joyce, who became famous for her role of ‘Jane’ in Tarzan movies, died of pneumonia on July 4 at a nursing home in Santa Monica, CA at the age of 92. Joyce, was the only actress to play Jane with two different movie Tarzan actors in the talking era.She succeeded Maureen O’Sullivan as Jane and appeared in five Tarzan movies in the 1940s, opposite Johnny Weissmuller and later Lex Barker.
A family friend, David Ragan, said she suffered from dementia for a decade. Joyce, whose real name was Betty Leabo, appeared in some two dozen movies. She is survived by a son, two daughters and three grandchildren. Rest in peace Joyce.
