Robert Redford marries lover in secret

At a slender 71, one of Hollywood’s most enduring and widely-loved actors, Robert Redford, proved love is not merely a young people’s thing by marrying his long-time friend, Sibylle Szaggars in Hamburg on Saturday.

The couple first met around ten years ago when Szaggars, 51, an abstract artist whose work has been exhibited in her native Germany, the UK, the US and countless countries all over the world, migrated to Utah where Rob’s ‘Sundance Institute’ for upcoming filmmakers is based.

The private service at the upscale Louis C. Jacob hotel in Hamburg, for which the bride wore a champagne colored gown, was witnessed by just 30 close friends after Ms. Szaggars [seen here on the right, with Rob and his daughter] made it clear to her family Pastor, Frank Engelbrecht, that both she and Rob wanted “a very intimate ceremony.”

This is Rob’s second marriage. His first marriage, to TV producer, Lola Van Wagenen ended in divorce in 1985, after having four children — one of whom sadly died in his crib.
