Mira Sorvino gives birth to miracle baby

Mira Sorvino gives birth to miracle babyOscar-winning actress and ‘Will & Grace’ alumnus, Mira Sorvino is now back at home after what can only be listed as a miracle birth. Married to actor, Christopher Backus [Life on Mars,] the couple already have two healthy children, but Mira’s third time at bat was almost her last.

Mira’s troublesome pregnancy and miraculously non-fatal birth problems began with a diagnosis of ‘Placenta Previa’, in which the placenta is blocking the baby’s way out. This landed the 41-year old actress in bed for three weeks, “I then developed a blood clot from the lack of activity and had to be treated with drugs for a pulmonary embolism,” she said. [fyi, a pulmonary embolism is a blood-clot in the lungs – it can kill you.]

And the fun didn’t even end there – Once it was time for newcomer, Holden Paul Terry Backus, to make his debut, the Tenafly native who scored her first Oscar at just 29, was not even close to being out of the woods. “He was very big, and he came a couple of weeks early so it took longer than we thought,” Mira told People. “And the placenta caused problems again. Although it was not totally blocking his path, it caused me a substantial loss of blood. But when we were close to needing a C-section the situation turned round, and the rest of the birth was quite easy.”

And once she held him, the pain was all gone, “As soon as they placed him in my arms I knew it had all been worth it,” says Mira. “He is my miracle baby!” Holden was born on June 22nd in L.A, and now joins Mira and Chris’s other productions, 4-year-old daughter Mattea, and Johnny, who’s three.

“We are overjoyed to bring our beautiful healthy son home to his brother and sister,” the proud parents then said in a statement. “We are blessed to have a home filled with so much love.” But being a new mom has its snags, “My only challenge has been convincing Mattea and Johnny not to touch him and pet him while he’s sleeping, because they keep waking him up!” Mira admits.
