Maura Tierney to undergo breast tumor surgery

Published on July 14, 2009 at 11:49 AM

Former ER star Maura Tierney is to undergo emergency surgery to remove a breast tumor, she has confirmed in a statement. The 44-year-old actress, who appeared in 10 seasons of the medical drama, said she has been assured that her condition is “very treatable”. However Tierney says: “I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed.”

Tierney’s setback has delayed production on her new NBC series, “Parenthood,” for eight weeks. The network said the medical drama “Mercy” will instead premiere this fall.  Tierney’s new show “Parenthood” is a new take on the 1989 film of the same name. Alongside Tierney, the show stars Peter Krause, Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard. All four play siblings. Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson play their parents. The show had been slated to premiere on September 23rd. Tierney will play a single mother who is doing her best to raise a rebellious 16-year-old daughter.

We wish Maura a speedy recovery!
