Ryan Reynolds to be DC Comics’ ‘The Green Lantern’

Just yesterday it was leaked that Warner Brothers was in the final stages of casting the lead for their live-action version of DC Comics’ ‘The Green Lantern.’ Trying to find the one actor who can truly portray the movie’s rare hero, Air Force pilot, Hal Jordan, who is chosen by a dying alien to take his place in a cosmic police force named ‘The Green Lantern Corps.’

After weeks of screen tests the search had narrowed to three in my opinion unlikely stars – Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. Lantern is a big budget film already forecast at $150-200-million, so the studio was obviously looking for some real star power in it’s lead character. We now hear from Hollywood Reporter that Warner has settled on Ryan Reynolds as its choice to play “Green Lantern.” If the deal is completed, it would make Reynolds the only actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC. “Lantern” is actually Reynold’s second stab at a DC Comics hero. A few years ago, he was attached to play the comic company’s speedster “The Flash,” which probably would have been a perfect fit if you know anything about that characters personality. Ryan is certainly super hero material but as Green Lantern he is not my ideal choice.
The film by the way is being directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

Wow when it rains it pours. After years of climbing the mountain all actors must scale, Ryan Reynolds is now on a serious roll. His debut in X-Men met with worldwide acclaim, he has a spinoff in motion and has total control, and just for good measure he’s now married to Scarlett Johansson. 20th Century Fox is already prepping the script for ‘Deadpool,” as a spin-off for the Wolverine character played by Ryan Reynolds and he is locked in to star. Deadpool, for those who have so far avoided the X-Men bug, is a hugely popular member of Marvel’s comic-book family, and is due to land in mid-20011. Apart from his forthcoming encore as Deadpool, Ryan’s got quite a schedule to fill – There is also a sequel for Wolverine in the works, and this time the gang all take over Japan. He can also be seen now in Sandra Bullock’s new film, ‘The Proposal.’
