Michael Jackson’s death certificate raises questions

Published on July 8, 2009 at 11:53 AM

Following the touching events of yesterday,  Michael Jackson’s death certificate has been released without any formal indication of what caused the singer’s  demise, and the LA coroner is still testing Mr. Jackson’s brain.

Ed Winter, LA County’s Assistant Chief Coroner, told reporters the brain is currently being examined by his office, and will be returned to the family when some neuropathology tests are completed. “As soon as we are done with the brain, we will return it,” he said. “There is a whole series of tests that will be done.”

It is not unusual for any coroner to withhold the brain – or some part of it – of someone who has died, in order to conduct further tests, and the Jackson family are believed to be waiting until Michael’s body is once more complete before they conduct an internment. “The last I heard, they are not burying the body yet,” said Winter.

Until the tests are all done, the death certificate is still incomplete — Michael’s occupation is shown as ‘Musician,’ but the cause of death is shown as ‘Deferred.’ There is no indication of where he may finally be laid to rest.
