Report: Michael Jackson Dreaded the Idea of Doing 50 Shows
New details about the last days of Michael Jackson’s life have emerged, including the fact that he was overwhelmed by a promise to do 50 concerts in London, in which he knew he would not be able to perform.
According to a segment of the book The Final Years Of Michael Jackson, by Ian Halperin, which was quoted in The Daily Mail, Jackson had originally agreed to do 10 shows, after being heavily pushed by his camp. Those ten shows quickly became fifty, a number decided and agreed by Michael’s spokesperson, Dr Tohme Tohme, a Lebanese business man who has worked for Michael over the last few years.
Michael became increasingly upset by the promise. With his health declining rapidly he knew he would be unable to perform in so many concerts in the O2 arena. He had a worsening lung condition that made him unable to sing (lip syncing his entire set was planned), he was losing dramatic amounts of weight, and he could no longer dance.
But he was also over hundreds of millions of dollars in debt, and desperate to reclaim his title of the King of Pop. He was also terrified to disappointing his fans, who had stood by him through his many problems.
Would he have been able to perform any of the promised shows? Or was it a mental breakdown, added to his constant abuse of prescription drugs, and various health problems that ultimately led to his death? Even the autopsy is unlikely to provide all the answers.
