Michael Jackson’s Death Tied to Longterm Drug Abuse and Potential Overdose

Published on June 26, 2009 at 10:58 AM

Brian Oxman, who was the Jackson family’s attorney for more than 20 years, suspects that prescription drug abuse played a role in Michael Jackson’s death, which shocked the world yesterday afternoon.

On that subject there are reports circulating that Michael Jackson may have died after getting a Demerol injection yesterday.

The Sun (UK) and TMZ are reporting shortly after the injection of the drug, Jackson’s breathing got “slower and slower until it stopped.”

Spokesman and attorney for the Jackson family, Brian Oxman in an interview (video below) with the UK’s Channel 4 News’ Krishnan Guru Murthy says that, he and Jackson’s family have been ‘very frightened of him abusing his medication’ for a long time.  Oxman has threatened to be ‘very vocal and critical’ if the pop stars death occurred as a result of medications he was taking.  Oxman said that he’s been the family’s attorney for 20 years. He also mentioned that the people around Michael were “enabling him” and that he “warned” the family that Michael may have been abusing prescription drugs. “Over the last several years I have said to family members that he is overmedicated.”  Oxman added that he had previously voiced concerns over Jackson’s health but insisted that although the singer had been on medication for a ‘great long time’ for health reasons, his general condition had always been fairly stable. Mr Oxman also raised concerns over how the fallout from Jackson’s death could affect the late pop star’s legacy. An autopsy will be performed on Jackson’s body today by a coroner in L.A. Until then, the exact cause of the icon’s death remains unknown.
