Oscar-winning songwriter Joseph Brooks indicted on Raping Young Aspiring Actresses
Posted on June 25th, 2009 by Hot MommaAn Oscar winning composer who was one of two to write the syrupy ’70s ballad ‘You Light Up My Life’ has been arrested after he was accused of raping at least 11 women that he met on Craigslist. And he wasn’t alone in the scheme.
According to authorities, 71-year-old Joseph Brooks and his assistant, 42-year-old Shawni Lucier, lured victims using Craigslist, promising a role to a beautiful young woman in an upcoming film. Lucier then interviewed them, arranged for them to fly to New York, and assisted Brooks in getting them drunk, before leaving the room to allow Brooks to have his way with them.
Brooks, allegedly, would then rape the girls and send them on their way, while Lucier covered their tracks. They have both been charged in the crimes.
“He told me he didn’t do any of these things,” Jeff Hoffman, Brooks’ lawyer, was quoted in the Telegraph.
Brooks turned himself in Tuesday to face 82 counts of sex-related charges, including rape. His Seattle-based assistant, Shawni Lucier, is to turn herself in next week.
