Michael Jackson dead of presumed heart attack at age 50

Sadly pop icon Michael Jackson has succumbed to what was reported as a heart attack late this afternoon, after being rushed to the hospital. Jackson was reportedly loaded into an ambulance just after 1 p.m. Pacific time.  Jackson was reportedly not breathing when paramedics arrived, and CPR was performed on the singer, at his home on Los Angeles. There were reports he was in a coma in the hospital, but he quickly passed away.  The news comes as Jackson has been preparing to make a comeback, with 50 sold-out shows in London’s O2 Arena this summer.

Jackson was was set to turn 51 on August 29th,  was the seventh of nine children in his now famous family. Five Jackson boys — Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael — first performed together at a talent show when Michael was 6, and soon went on to become The Jackson Five, and then The Jackson 5.

Jackson made his first solo album in 1972, and released “Thriller” in 1982, which became a smash hit that yielded seven top-10 singles. Often ridiculed for many reasons, I think he will ultimately be looked upon fondly.  Rest in peace, Michael.
