Christina Ricci breaks off engagement

After some speculation but no outward signs, Christina Ricci and her fiancée, Owen Benjamin, have decided to go their own ways.

“Owen had a birthday party last Sunday, and everything seemed fine. Later, they got into a fight and decided to re-evaluate things. Then the engagement was off,” an insider told the folks over at People.

Another friend has a different view and says Ricci, 29, had canceled their plans well before that, but the two still maintain contact; “They talk almost every day. It was a mature decision and they both felt good about it. They’re definitely still friends.” advises the friend.

Christina met 28-year old Owen in mid-2008, on the set of her movie, ‘All’s Faire in Love,’ which coincidentally concerns an obsessive slacker who woos, wins and dates a neurotic career-junkie. They’ve been dating since October, but the engagement itself only happened in March.

A rep for Ms Ricci was not taking calls, but with all the ink he’s now getting, Owen’s reps must think this is Christmas.
