Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt almost ironically quit NBC show: ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here’
In the saddest example of self-serving hype since their last one, Spencer Pratt and wife Heidi Montag have told NBC they may quit their roles on ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here,’ because they’re not being treated like fully-fledged stars.
Debuted by ABC in 2003, the Brit-imported show dumps C-list celebs in the heart of a jungle for 30-days and requires them to complete certain tasks to earn their release. The two ‘Hills’ alumni arrived in this year’s location of San Juan, Costa Rica on Wednesday, and have been bitching and moaning about life ever since.
According to network insiders, they began by protesting the level of ‘fame’ enjoyed by their peers [this season's cast includes Stephen Baldwin, Sanjaya, Lou Diamond Phillips and Rod Blagojevich's potty-mouthed wife.] Then they refused to eat the same food, and were even convinced the whole trip would be spent in a Four Seasons Hotel, with free room service and exercise bikes.
The situation became so strained, NBC’s Executive VP of reality programming, Paul Telegdy, had to fly to the set to calm the overgrown two-year olds down. And whaddya know…it seems to have worked! Scenes shot on Sunday for tonight’s two-hour debut include a contest in which Spencer eats a live stick-insect and Heidi chows down on [what looks like] a scorpion.
And while engaged in devouring his slithering snack, Spencer, 26, delivers a quote that provides ample proof of the cause of their tantrum, “I’m going to be a billionaire by 2010.” he’s seen to declare.
The new season debuts tonight at 8pm ET. If you can endure it, let us know what you think.
