Phil Spector gets 19 years to life for actress’ murder
Music producer Phil Spector famed for his work with musical acts such as Tina Turner, the Beatles and the Righteous Brothers, was sentenced Friday to 19 years to life in prison for the for the 2003 gruesome shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson. Spector, 69, will likely spend the rest of his life in prison as he will not be eligible for parole until 2028, when he would be 88.
A jury convicted him of Clarkson’s murder last month, a year and a half after another panel deadlocked 10-2 in favor of convicting Spector. At the second trial as at the first, prosecutors said Clarkson fell victim to a man who had a three-decade “history of playing Russian roulette with the lives of women,” especially when he’d been drinking. Spector’s defense contended Clarkson shot herself. Spector declined the opportunity to address the court upon his sentencing and was lead away to serve his time.
