Jon and Kate Gosselin Now Under Investigation for Violating Child Labor Laws

More heat for Jon and Kate Gosselin, who are already going through a difficult time in their marriage to say the least. For nearly five years now, viewers of the “Jon & Kate Plus 8″, TLC reality show have watched the couple live their everyday lives in a household of eight children; a set of twins and sextuplets. With recent gossip linking both parents to infidelity, the premier episode of the fifth season of the show this past Monday, drew a record audience of 10 million viewers.

Now questions are being raised, suggesting the couple are exploiting their children for financial gain and the Pennsylvania Department of Labor is conducting an investigation into possible violations of state child labor laws.

Responding to a complaint against the reality show, the state labor department is gathering information to determine if the reality show falls within its child labor laws. If the department finds that the children are “employees” and producers of the show direct their actions, the labor law may apply.

However, having cameras in the home documenting the children’s’ lives would probably not violate labor restrictions on child labor. A statement released by TLC, states: “TLC fully complies with all applicable laws and regulations. Jon and Kate + 8 is no exception. For an extended period of time, we have been engaged in cooperative discussions and supplied all requested information to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor. We will continue to engage the appropriate officials and meet any standards or regulations that are applicable to TLC productions.”

Kate’s brother and sister-in-law added further fuel to the fire this week, appearing on CBS’ “The Early Show.” accusing Jon and Kate of exploiting their children for financial gain and to generate high ratings for their show.

Jon and Kate Gosselin reportedly earn50-75k for each episode of the show (wow).
