Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz team up in new film

With her love life now under control, the word is that Cameron Diaz will join Tom Cruise in the upcoming Fox action-comedy, ‘Wichita.’

Tom has been flirting with several other projects since the first of the year, but he’s finally picked the James Mangold-helmed two-hander as his next trip to the movies. The film centers around a single girl who has the world’s worst luck with men. Tom will play a secret agent who drops in and out of her life in an often-thwarted attempt to perk up her days and find her a man.

In the last six months, Tom’s shown serious interest in six upcoming films and spent millions of dollars of Paramount’s money having them re-drafted until he approved. The winner, it seems, was ‘Wichita.’ He and Ms. Diaz have now signed on to star, and their people are busy agreeing the numbers to go on the checks.

This will be the glamorous pair’s first time together since the Cameron Crowe-helmed calamity, ‘Vanilla Sky’ back in 2001. It’s not clear yet when filming will start, but the studio’s looking for a debut in mid-2010, so it needs to be sometime this fall at the latest.
