Kate Winslet sues over fitness regime

Kate Winslet suing UK's Daily MailIn a move that has many tongues wagging…for all the wrong reasons, Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet is suing the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper for libel after they questioned the truth of her fitness regime.

The source of the 33-year old’s alleged distress is an article recently carried by the paper entitled, “Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the world’s most irritating actress?” Katie is claiming she was “distressed and embarrassed” by the article’s content, and the “nasty and unpleasant” way it was written, and she wants $225,000 to help her recover.

In the article, Liz Jones, the paper’s chief Hollywood scribe, quotes Katie as saying she “didn’t have time to visit the gym,” but instead keeps in shape by doing Pilates at home.  Liz says that, in her opinion, Katie “has become as drippy and as impossibly vain as the rest of them.” And that just got Katie steamed!

Her lawsuit, now being considered by London’s High Court, says Liz’s remarks have ‘injured her personal and professional reputation,’ and Katie wants the paper to agree they won’t use them again. The folks at the Mail have so far refused.

And this isn’t the first time Kate’s proved she’s thin-skinned; In 2007, she accepted an undisclosed sum from ‘Grazia’ magazine after they said she’d consulted a dietitian to help her lose weight. In that case, the magazine caved, and Kate got a groveling apology, a fat check and retraction.

For someone who made her acting debut as a back-up dancer to the Honey Monster, you’d think she would show a more defined sense of humor?

The suit is ongoing, and if it ever sees daylight we’ll let you know.
