Lance Armstrong scared off by Sheryl Crow’s ticking clock
With his record-breaking seven consecutive Tour de France wins, you would think there was nothing Lance Armstrong couldn’t beat. But in his new book, creatively titled, “Lance,” due out in July, the 37-year old Texan reveals the relentless progression of Sheryl Crow’s biological clock defeated the champ and drove them apart.
The two were engaged in 2005 and Sheryl had life all worked out, “She wanted marriage, she wanted children; and I didn’t want that at that time because I had just gotten out of a marriage; I’d just had kids.” he explains. “Yet we’re up against her biological clock — that pressure is what cracked it.” The pair even tried counseling to find a solution, but there was no way to resolve it and they eventually split.
But even now, four years after the fact, Lance clearly still has regrets, “If somebody wants a child, that’s the greatest gift you can give to a woman; So who are you to stand there and say ‘I don’t want one’?. We were just at different points in our lives. I wasn’t ready. I would have been in the future, but not then.”
Sheryl, however, overcame the upset and in 2007 she adopted a two-week old baby, whom she named Wyatt Steven Crow. The pair now enjoy life among the natural splendors of Sheryl’s 154-acre farm outside Nashville.
Lance’s life has also been touched by good fortune; After dating such glorious women as Tory Burch, Lisa Shields and even Kate Hudson, he announced in December that his current companion, Anna Hansen, is pregnant. After his 1996 battle with cancer, doctors had told him he’d be sterile for life, so the news is clearly a joy for them both.
The couple’s new baby is due in mid-June.
