American Idol winner David Cook’s brother has died

American Idol winner David Cook has lost his oldest brother, after a 10-year battle with cancer,  according to the singer’s official website.Adam Cook was diagnosed with a brain tumor over a decade ago, and had been fighting the disease ever since. He last received chemotherapy a year ago, during the time his younger brother was performing on the Fox reality show, American Idol.

The 37-year-old could be seen in the front row of several of Cook’s performances during his time on the Idol stage in 2008, and the singer had recently canceled shows to spend time with Adam.

Cook made the announcement of his brother’s death at the Race for Hope 5K on Sunday, where he was a grand marshal and runner.

“I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now,” he was heard saying.

Adam Cook is survived by his wife, Kendra, a son, and a daughter.
