Pregnant Kelis files for divorce from Kelis

Hip-hop couple Nas and his pregnant wife Kelis are breaking up.

“I can confirm that she has filed for divorce,” Kelis’ representative told Vibe Magazine Thursday. “We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time.”

Laura Wasser, an attorney for the influential R&B diva, filed a divorce petition from the multi-platinum rapper citing irreconcilable differences. Kelis is seven months pregnant, the magazine reported.

Kelis, whose full name is Kelis Rogers-Jones, and Nas, whose full name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, met in 2002 at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty, dated for two years before marrying in Atlanta in January 2005.

The two collaborated on Kelis’ single “In Public,” which appeared on her 2003 release “Tasty,” and she made an appearance on Nas’ controversial 2006 song “Hip Hop Is Dead.”

Internet rumors of a breakup have been circulating for more than a year, Vibe said.
