Twilight (Eclipse) selects new, demonic director

From its modest debut in November last year, Twilight has grown into one of the most remarkable franchises in recent Hollywood history. Robert Pattinson’s iconic Edward, plus Catherine Hardwicke’s finespun direction won movie fans hearts all over the world, and part two continued that quest. But part three has been quite a trial.

After wrapping ‘New Moon,’ director, Chris Weitz made it clear he had no wish to work on part three. So the Producers had to find some fresh blood. And quick!

As we reported before, many names were suggested, including Drew Barrymore. But with David Slade, 39, now installed at the helm, the people at Summit Entertainment have told E-Online that part three is now in good hands. “Eclipse is a rich, vivid book, and we looked long and hard for a Director who could do it justice.” Summit’s President of Production Erik Feig, told the scribes. “We believe we have found that in David; a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds.”

And even the Author agrees, “I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing Eclipse,” said Stephenie Myers, in a statement issued last night. “He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer.” And from Stephanie, that’s really high praise.

Having made half the world shriek by plunging an Alaskan town into perpetual gloom, then infesting its houses with vampires in his 2007 shocker, ’30 Days of Night,’ you can see how they knew Dave’s the guy! But can he do justice to Edward? You can judge for yourselves soon enough; Twilight: New Moon will bow in November, with Eclipse due out in mid-Summer next year.
