‘Lost in Translation’ director Sophia Coppola picks another hotel for new film
After shooting ‘Lost in Translation’ almost entirely in and around the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, thereby transforming a simple location into a star of the movie, Sofia Coppola is setting her next work a little closer to home; Her next project tells the story of a bad-boy Actor enduring a life of sloth and excess at the Chateau Marmont, right here in Hollywood.
Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning [sister of Dakota,] will be the leads in the new drama-comedy called, “Somewhere,” which Sophie also wrote. According to Variety, the Hollywood helmer wanted to make “an intimate story set in contemporary L.A,” and the suits at the Chateau – a notorious hang-out for sleazy celebs – were only too happy to help.
And so, it would seem, were her studio. ‘Lost’ was a critical and box-office darling, and Focus Pictures were eager to do a reprise. “Lost remains among our most beloved movies, and ‘Somewhere’ will have all the witty, moving and empathetic qualities that characterize her work.” Jim Schamus, CEO of Focus told reporters.
Apart from ‘Lost’, Sophie, 38, also wrote and directed “The Virgin Suicides” and the box-office dud, “Marie Antoinette.” So this is her fourth time at bat. And she’s got some classy assistance — She will write and direct, then co-produce with Roman, her brother; And Francis-Ford Coppola (Sophie’s big daddy,) will Exec Produce the whole show. And this is a man you do not refuse.
There’s no date for release yet, but keep checking in and Momma will keep you all well in the know.
