Mel Gibson is going to be an easy target

As the tabloids heat up following the announcement of Mel Gibson’s wife filing papers for divorce, it’s pretty clear now he is going to be an easy and favored target. His image of loving husband, devoted father and deeply religious pillar of the community is in conflict with his darker side. Not that Mel’s life was ever squeaky clean, but he was married for an eternity by Hollywood standards and was the father of seven children — six boys and a girl aged between 10 and 27 .  Alcoholism, rumored affairs, and his drunken tirade against Jews after a police officer arrested him in 2006, were some of his ‘rough edges.’ Meanwhile Mel spent something like $35 million building the Holy Family Catholic Church, the place of worship for a community said to be so deeply conservative that even the Pope has cut them off. Gibson is so fanatical about his faith that he told the New Yorker magazine five years ago that his blamelessly Anglican wife will be eternally damned for not being Catholic, despite by his own admission, being “a much better person” than him.  Mel is going to be seen as a hypocrite for these paradoxes and it’s already begun.

After the bombshell (for some) of Gibson’s wife of 28 years, Robyn, filed for divorce, a 24-year-old Russian pop singer has come forth, claiming that she had a romantic relationship with the 53-year-old actor and has now fallen in love.

Britain’s The Sun, has already dug up an assortment of 20-something candidates, dubbed Mel’s Belles — most of whom appear to be from the former Soviet Union — who are apparently jostling to be his next wife, despite the fact the current Mrs only lodged the divorce papers a couple of days ago.

One of those candidates, Oksana Pochepa confirms that she is the mystery brunette photographed kissing Gibson on a Costa Rican beach in March.

“This is serious and I hope that our union will be real and strong and long-lasting,” she told the paper Tuesday.

The two met last August when Pochepa was hired to compose a song for Gibson’s upcoming thriller Edge of Darkness.

Then there’s the other Oksana, Oksana Grigorieva, yet another Soviet musician and mother to actor Timothy Dalton’s son. The London-based composer is reportedly separated from Dalton. Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda thinks she has to be the woman pictured in March frolicking with Gibson on a Costa Rican beach.

Mel’s been through some dark times in his life and likely will call on PR miracle-worker Alan Nierob to help him once again.
