Nicollette Sheridan decries her demise
When Desperate Housewives airs on Sunday it will be Edie’s swan-song in the show. But Nicolette Sheridan tells US Magazine she’s ‘not sad at all’ about her character leaving Wisteria Lane.
Sad, no. Consumed with egocentric self-pity? Well check our previous story here, where Nicolette reportedly took some revenge,
Sheridan’s character, Edie, has been a part of the show, appearing in 113 episodes since its debut in 2004, but this sudden removal was a shock to the Actress, it seems, “Somebody really wanted her dead. Whoever Edie represents in Marc’s life was somebody he didn’t like.” she tells the scribes
Nicolette, 43, made it clear she would have left on her own, but there was simply no option to exit. “When the show started it was a different beast. It was exciting and dangerous and funny. But it started feeling complacent, and that was very frustrating.” she told reporters. “But we were all under contract, so there was no way out on your own terms.”
And the Actress foresees dire events as a result of her unjust demise; “Killing off Edie was a risky decision that could have devastating ramifications,” she said, in an obvious dig at show creator, Marc Cherry. She also zings Cherry for not talking about her in press interviews, or adding her face to the opening credits, :”When you have a jewel, why not polish it and put it out there for all to see?” she inquires with self-effacing aplomb.
In a much-needed defense against such thinly-veiled venom, Mr. Cherry made it clear in numerous interviews that Sheridan’s character could bring nothing else to the show, “Edie already slept with most of the guys on the street and has caused as many problems as she could,” he says. “And there has been tremendous pressure on me to cut costs.’” he explains.
While it’s true that Edie’s demise will save ABC about $200,000 a show, the question remains, what’s next? “We will find a new kind of sexiness coming through Wisteria Lane.” Mr. Cherry assures all his fans. “What I won’t do is cast another 40-something sexy blonde,” he adds with a gleam. “Nicolette did the aging, neighborhood tramp better than anyone has ever done before.”
Like the lady said, when you have a gift, pretty soon everyone knows it.
