Adult film legend Marilyn Chambers dead at 56
Porn film legend Maryln Chambers was discovered dead in her mobile home a week shy of her 57th birthday by her daughter McKenna.  Chambers, whose given name was Marilyn Briggs, was once a spokesperson for Ivory Snow detergent, from which she was dropped as soon as her adult film career became known. The porn industry capitalized on this incongruous image, often displaying Ivory Snow boxes in her films. She was among the first porn superstars when the stag films of earlier days gave way to the more polished sex films of the 1970s.
Chambers starred in the 1972 film “Behind the Green Door,” which was more widely distributed and attracted a more mainstream audience than the usual adult fare. Chambers made more than 25 porn movies, including several films with late porn star John Holmes, who died of AIDS complications in 1988. Chambers had a bit part in the 1970 Barbra Streisand film “The Owl and the Pussycat,” and starred in the 1977 David Cronenberg horror movie “Rabid.” Chambers ran for U.S. vice president in 2004 on the Personal Choice Party ticket and released the disco single “Benihana” in 1976.
An autopsy is scheduled, but no cause of death has been given. Officials did say that no foul play was evident.Source
