Eminem skewers celebs in venemous new vid

When you work as a rapper and pick a name as odd as ‘Slim Shady’ you’d better be able to bring it. And in his new and much publicized video, Eminem surely does. As his first solo outing since 2005 and the opening salvo from his upcoming album, ‘Relapse,’ due out May 19, “We Made You,” is an instant, incisive Eminem classic.

In the video, which was bowed and reviewed on MTV yesterday, Eminem engages in a one-man tirade against shallow celebs, and no-one is safe from his bile; Scene one finds our hero on a glorious throne in a long blond wig and a cowboy hat (he’s Bret Michaels, in case you weren’t sure,) being sweetly serenaded by a Jessica clone. Cut to scene two and he’s in a Dallas Cowboys shirt, dancing a duet with the double that you won’t see on DWTS.

Next, framed by a glamorous set that is a clear tribute to Guitar Hero, Em then lays down some lyrics aimed straight at the faux celebs who are his unswerving target. Dr. Dre soon appears, dressed as a Star Trek captain, to which Em responds by morphing into a rock star, going out grazing with Kim Kardashian, from whose life-threatening curves he seems in imminent danger of losing his cool. By the way Kim Kardashian was honored to be spoofed by the rapper.

“I just saw Eminem’s new video for “We Made You” and he totally spoofs me!! It was a total surprise to me because I had no idea he was going to talk about me in the song.” Kim wrote on her official website.

“I think this video is so funny! I am a huge Eminem fan and find it flattering that he would rap about me. He’s a bit harsh about some other celebrities, but you just have to let it go and have a sense of humor. Personally, I’m honored.”

In line with past outings, this new creations is a scathing parody of superficial celebrity, and Em is quite open on that, “There’s some celebrity bashing in it,” he told MTV News. “It’s not intentional bashing; It’s not taking deliberate shots at people….Yes, it is. What am I talking about?!” The man always did know how to ask a tough question.

Another scene shows Em as a truck driver, with the dubious good fortune of having Lindsay and Sam ride along. The two are getting hot and heavy in his cab, and his feelings are clear, “Lindsay, please come back to seein’ men/ Samantha’s a 2; you’re practically a 10!” Then, for reasons even more complex than some of his lyrics, he touches La Lohan and is instantly transfigured into a full-fledged Transformer, complete with a Mohawk and breasts.

Em’s own review of the new vid is intriguing; He claims to be using the song as his own form of Jedi mind trick, “Hot chicks don’t want me, I’m telling them they do,” he told reporters. “It’s a reverse-psychology thing, and I’m gonna see if it works.”

Among the many victims of this rhythmic reprimand are Ellen, Britney, Sarah Palin, Jennifer Aniston, Amy Winehouse and Jessica Alba. But then comes the scene that made this video one of MTV’s hottest features before it even debuted; Dressed in a suit that could be straight from the 1988 flick, ‘Rain Man’ Em follows Dr. Dre through a casino until they reach a blackjack table, where they face no less an opponent than 50 Cent. This scene alone is worth the price of admission.

Helmed by Joseph Kahn, who has crafted MTV gold for Lady Gaga, Britney and numerous others, the overall video is slick and well-timed, and Dre’s work on the song is flawless, as always. Eminem is said to be planning a sequel album to Relapse for later this year. On this evidence, I’d say it’s deserved.
