Hard luck former “Eight is Enough” childhood star Willie Aames is selling off his belongings in suburban Kansas City.
Dozens showed up Thursday at a garage sale at his Olathe home, where Aames made deals with bargain-hunters and signed autographs.
The 48-year-old Aames who also starred in “Charles in Charge” has fallen upon hard times. Aames tried unsuccessfully to commit suicide last year after declaring bankruptcy. His car was also repossessed and his wife left him after 22 years. His home is now in foreclosure.
Items on sale included antiques, artwork, a piano, deer head mounts and TV and movie memorabilia.
During his Teen Beat poster boy 1980s heyday, Aames picked up a drug and alcohol habit that he struggled to kick for more than twenty years. In the ’90s, he became a born-again Christian and ordained minister, even starring in his own Bibleman videos.
A production crew filmed the sale for a for a forthcoming TV documentary about his life.
