New Line Cinema, recently announced a new project is in the works for a big screen adaptation of the popular 80s TV show, MacGyver. Original series creator, Lee Zlotoff is said to be on board with producer, Raffaella De Laurentiis and Co. The producers hope to stay true to the fun 80s innocence of the original series, while updating it in a modern setting.

The beloved TV series, with secret agent Angus MacGyver, fighting worldwide bad guys with his trusty pocket knife, a roll of duct tape and ingenuity, ran for seven years from 1985-92. The show became an instant hit and propelled the likeable character into a cultural iconic figure. The term “MacGyver” has since gone on to be used for any common-sense problem solving, especially if using duct tape and a paper clip.  Young male fans of the original series, were known to try to duplicate many of MacGyver’s delightfully nerdy stunts/escapades. One of the most popular MacGyver stunts: dumping an egg in a leaky car radiator to plug it up, was actually suggested by a young fan. Actor, Richard Dean Anderson, played Macgyver and now enjoys success in the popular Sci Fi Channel’s SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.
