Fox already remaking a darker Fantastic Four?
Despite already receiving the Hollywood treatment as recently as 2007, plans are apparently well advanced to produce a remake of ‘Fantastic Four’, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Already engaged in preparing a prequel to their ‘Planet of the Apes’ movies, with as-yet-unconfirmed thoughts of remaking the series, 20th Century Fox are also said to be preparing a complete reinvention of the ‘Fantastic’ concept, with an entirely new cast and new choice of Director.
While the original movies were box-office hits, with 2005′s ‘Fantastic Four’ grossing $330-million and ‘Silver Surfer’ returning a respectable $290-million worldwide just two-years later, the studio is reportedly anxious to avoid the tepid response among comic-book fans and accusations of ‘bubble-gum triviality’ that were repeatedly aimed at these earlier outings. Fox’s vision for the renewed motion picture, due to be made without the involvement of Marvel Studios this time, is said to call for a darker, more serious treatment like Batman or perhaps similar to Paramount’s vastly more successful ‘Iron Man’ movie, which scored widespread acclaim in May of last year. Only time can tell if such hasty reuse can bring them success…
