Minka Kelly is headed to Washington. Well known for her role in  “Friday Night Lights” and who she has dated in past (John Mayer, Chris Evans, Derek Jeter) she has been cast for the lead role of the CW’s drama pilot “Body Politic.”

Minka the daughter of former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay, also has a smash hit album to her credit and in between she’s done some low-rated but critically acclaimed series like, “Veronica Mars’ ” alongside Jason Dohring, who also been cast in the pilot.

CBS Par’s “Body Politic,” presents a view on politics in Washington via the eyes of hopeful up-and-coming staffers.

Minka plays Hope, a female with all-American attributes who after the death of her mother leaves Michigan and moves to Washington D.C., where her long-lost dad, Senator Webster (Tim Matheson), has recently taken over the post of Attorney General. Hope lands a job on his staff.

Jason Dohring is to play the role of a reporter working with the Washington Post.

Fans of the “FNL” who got excited with news of Kelly’s new gig will have to wait as the gig does not mean that the “FNL” is back. DirecTV & NBC are still locked in negotiations and insiders remain hopeful that there will be a 4th season for the show.

But this season Lyla (Minka’s character on the show) graduated from high school and will be in college now. So even if “FNL” is given the go ahead for a 4th season Minka most probably will not be a regular on the show.

This season producers used a tactic wherein they brought Scott Porter & Gaius Charles both who were regulars on the first two seasons to star in 4 episodes each and then wrapped up their characters’.
