Pink dolphin rediscovered in Louisiana lake

A beautiful freak of nature has been rediscovered in Lake Calcasieu, Louisiana, an inland saltwater estuary, north of the Gulf of Mexico in southwestern Louisiana,! A pink Bottlenose dolphin, which was first seen two years as a calf in June 2007!
Charter boat captain Erik Rue spotted and photographed the pink dolphin, saying, “I had never seen anything like it. It’s the same color throughout the whole body and it looks like it just came out of a paint booth.”
The dolphin’s “stunningly pink” color is the result of albinism, which is indicated by its red eyes as well as its pink skin. “Surprisingly, it does not appear to be drastically affected by the environment or sunlight as might be expected considering its condition, although it tends to remain below the surface a little more than the others in the pod,” reports Rue.
Regina Asmutis-Silvia, senior biologist with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society reminds us all to “be careful, as with any dolphins, to respect it – observe from a distance, limit their time watching, don’t chase or harass it.”
That way everyone can enjoy the fabulous dolphin while it enjoys it’s own life!
