In a move that many are saying is a political stunt to turn the general election in the current governments favor, two of the children who starred in Slumdog Millionaire are to receive proper houses for them and their families, for “bringing glory to India”.

Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, and Rubiana Ali Qureshi played the childhood versions of the main characters, in the movie which received massive acclaim at this year’s Oscars. Because of this success, Mumbai officials have said that the two will be given real homes for the first time.

“They deserve to be rewarded for the film’s success at the Oscars,” Chairman Amarjeet Singh Manhas announced.

“The chief minister has approved this. Their families will receive notification in a couple of days.”
