Frontman Steven Page, 38,  of popular Canadian band the twice Grammy nominated Barenaked Ladies, is leaving to pursue a solo career, the group announced on Wednesday.

“By mutual agreement, Steven Page will be parting company with the remaining members of Barenaked Ladies,” the band said on its Web site, saying Page would be pursuing solo projects.

No mention of the drug bust was mentioned but one has to think it damaged the group in many ways and it was ‘page’ they wanted to turn.

Page was arrested in July 2008 and charged with drug possession after police found the singer with cocaine at an upstate New York apartment. In October, the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor.

The rest of the band will continue to record and tour together, and plan to start recording a new album in April 2009, followed by a tour in the fall.
