Mickey Rourke’s Prized Pooch Loki has died
Mickey Rourke’s beloved pet Loki, one of the prized pups he thanked in his touching Golden Globes acceptance speech, has died.
The little Chihuahua passed away on Monday at the age of 18. Rourke often called the dog the “love of his life,” According to E! News, which was also confirmed by his rep.
Loki often joined Rourke on the red carpet and at other events and was a common companion of his at all the premieres for the star’s comeback film, ‘The Wrestler.’
When Rourke won the Globe last month, he said, “I’d like to thank all my dogs, the ones who are here and the ones who aren’t here anymore. Sometimes when a man’s alone, that’s all you got is your dog. And they’ve meant the world to me.”
Rourke expanded on this sentiment in a recent sit-down with Barbara Walters for her annual post-Oscars interview special.
“I sort of self-destructed and everything came out about fourteen years ago or so…the wife had left, the career was over, the money was not an ounce,” he said. “The dogs were there when no one else was there.”
Rourke is one of the favorite’s to win the Best Actor trophy at this Sunday’s Academy Awards. If he does, expect a shout-out to his departed pup.
