Margaret Cho calls ‘Miley Cyrus a Disgrace!’
Controversial comedienne, Margaret Cho has jumped into the Miley Cyrus’ fray in which the teen queen mocked Asian people in her latest photo scandal. The backlash was swift for the Disney wild child. The 16-year-old star has apologized twice for the photo, in which she and a group of friends are seen pulling back their eyelids. One of the persons in the shot is Asian. Soon after the photo became public, the OCA, an Asian rights group, said the singer-actress was setting a “terrible example” by “mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent.” Reasonable reaction especially when Cyrus is employed by Disney.
And then theirs, Cho who peppers her stand-up routine with gay jokes, heroin jokes, g-spot jokes and fisting jokes, but she is quite offended by a picture of Miley Cyrus pulling her eyelids back. She posted a song on margaretcho.com Tuesday that chides the ‘Hannah Montana’ star for flippantly using “chinky eyes” and laments the perceived unchecked racism towards Asians in America. “This kind of joke has no proper place,” she writes. “Miley Cyrus is a disgrace!” Check out all the lyrics here.
Meanwhile, TMZ is reporting that a Los Angeles woman has filed a class action suit against Cyrus, seeking $4 billion in damages on behalf of the 1 million Asian Pacific Islanders living in LA County. Can we all agree Miley is a twit, and what she did was offensive but this later stuff a bit of an overreaction?
