American Idol ‘professional’ contestant disqualified after uproar

Published on February 12, 2009 at 12:09 PM

American Idol semi-finalist Joanna Pacitti has finally been disqualified from the competition!

Fox released a statement late Wednesday explaining Pacitti’s disqualification as to “avoid the appearance of impropriety.” They were a day late and a dollar short on avoiding the poor appearance however.

The speculation about the legitimacy of Pacitti to be in the running for American Idol included her past professional work including a a major record deal, tracks featured on the Legally Blonde and Nancy Drew soundtracks and having starred in a Broadway show. Furthermore rumors had the “aspiring” songstress being planted in the competition due to a close relationship with certain people close to Idol. Star magazine had Idol execs Michelle Young and Roger Widynowski having very personal connections to the Pacitti. Joanna has apparently referred to Michelle as her “manager” and “best friend,” and credited Roger with “helping me get where I am today.”

Did Fox really think they could sneak this debacle past Idol fans?

Pacitti has been replaced in the semi-finals by the more deserving Felicia Barton, 26, who will go on to compete in the Top 36.
