Narnia franchise set to continue voyage with third film in 2010
Aslan the lion will be roaring again and Prince Caspian will return in ‘Voyage of The Dawn Treader’! The Narnia series of films will continue after Twentieth Century Fox has stepped in to partner with Walden Media for at least one more film based on the C.S. Lewis children’s book series “The Chronicles of Narnia,” after the Walt Disney Co bowed out, a Fox spokesman said on Thursday.
Fox replaces Disney, which bowed out in December citing “budgetary considerations and other logistics”. The effects-laden films cost Disney and Walden an estimated $180 million to $200 million to produce.
The second film in the series, Prince Caspian, made $420m compared with the $745m made by 2005′s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and both films went on to become top DVD sellers.
No information has been released about the production costs for the new film which sees the Pevensie children take another member of the family – cousin Eustace – into Narnia.
The next movie “Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” is due to be released in 2010, Fox reported.
