Is this a never-say-never story or just wishful thinking? David Bowie is reportedly in talks to resurrect the gender-bending, intergalactic rock star Ziggy Stardust persona for a one-off appearance at a U.S. music festival. Perhaps inspired by the success of Roger Waters performing the complete Dark Side of the Moon last year, organizers of this year’s (09) Coachella event in California have asked Bowie to make a special headline performance.

Bowie, who is reportedly back in the studio recording a new album, has been asked to perform his 1972 glam LP, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, in it’s entirety for the three-day gig in April (08).

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Star, “Coachella tried to book Bowie last year and he refused, so they got Prince to headline instead. But there’s a very strong chance they will be able to persuade him this year.” Bowie – who has been in semi-retirement since a minor heart scare in 2004 killed off his theatrical rock star persona in 1973, claiming the character hindered his creativity.

In 2002 Bowie the now 62-year-old told Rolling Stone: “Can you imagine anything uglier than a nearly 60-year-old Ziggy Stardust? I don’t think so!”
