John Mayer set for TV Variety Show

CBS has announced they are close to a deal with pop star John Mayer for a music and variety TV show. Given the public nature and who made the announcement it sounds like this could be a done-deal at least for a pilot.

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler told a meeting of the Television Critics Association that the project is under development and an agreement is near.

Mayer and CBS have worked together before, with a 2006 cameo appearance on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” performing songs for a scene set in a Las Vegas network.

Mayer who is famously dating Jennifer Aniston, took the best pop vocal album Grammy in 2007 for “Continuum.” His current hit is “Say,” might also appear on next month’s Grammy Awards on CBS: Mayer’s up for five awards.

Mayer will face competition from the Osbournes.  Ozzy; his wife, Sharon; and their children Jack and Kelly – are set to debut their variety show “Osbournes Reloaded”  on Fox this spring.
