Published on January 1, 2009 at 2:40 PM

It’s been awhile since we have been able to see Michael Pitt really stretch his wings on the small screen, but it looks like that is about to change.

Pitt is in the final negotiations to participate in Martin Scorsese’s new HBO drama, ‘Boardwalk Empire’, alongside the legendary Steve Buscemi.

‘Boardwalk Empire’, a novel written by Terrence Winter, is the story of a businessman (Buscemi) running an illicit alcohol ring during the prohibition in the 1920′s. One of his small time lackeys (Pitt), a young WWI Veteran, is eager to make it into his inner circle, and become a more successful member of the faction.

Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald  of “Trainspotting” fame has already been cast as a smart Irish immigrant who married the wrong man to get out of her parents’ house.

Pitt, who had a recurring role on “Dawson’s Creek,” also starred in the feature films “The Dreamers” and “Last Days.”

No date has been set for it’s release.
