DJ AM sues pilots in plane crash?
Update: DJ AM took to his blog clarify the apparently false rumor regarding who was sued in the airplane crash lawsuits he’s filed.
Here’s what he has to say:
DECEMBER 30, 2008
Hello All -Normally I don’t feel like I NEED to make a statement like this, but after I read some recently reported untruths I feel like I have to. I want to take a second to address the hurtful posts and clear up any misunderstandings any of you may have about my law suit. I would NEVER sue the deceased pilots’ estates or personal holdings. I am more than grateful that I survived this horrible accident and I’d never try to take anything from those that didn’t. Despite the misinterpretations of the lawsuit, this suit is against the insurance companies that insured the pilots. I’m not after Sarah’s or James’ personal estates nor their property. Everyone involved in this suit has suffered a great deal, and I would not do anything to make matters worse for the deceased family and friends. Daily I live with the guilt and grief of what happened that night, what I saw, who was lost and why I was spared. I have no words to express the pain that comes with knowing four people died, while I lived.
Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein
Previous story: DJ AM has followed his friends lead Travis Barker, and filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles yesterday.
TMZ reports DJ AM (real name: Adam Goldstein) is suing the estates of the two pilots who died in the crash as well as Clay Lacy Aviation, Global Exec Aviation, Inter Travel & Services Inc, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, and Learjet.
In his lawsuit, DJ AM claims when the pilots reached takeoff speed, they were aware of what was happening after one of the tires blew out. The pilots made the split second decision to abort the takeoff, causing the plane to crash and burst into flames. The suit basically says this was a bad decision made by the pilots.
The suit asks for compensation for pain, suffering, lost earnings, property damage, punitive damages and past and future health-related expenses.
Travis Barker already filed a similar lawsuit against people he claims were at fault for the plane crash that left with him burns and killed two of his friends.
Truthfully I am put off by these lawsuits against the pilots. Both DJ and Travis have means and are now able to work. It seems like suing the estates of the pilots, just punishes their families, who face a Christmas dealing with the tragic deaths of their loved ones and probably need any money they have. Just saying.

Agreed. These guys are rich, and suing some pilots who lost their lives trying to make a split second decision that could have saved everyone. Any respect I may have had for these two has now been tainted with their typical disdain for anyone else and their American ability to sue at a moments notice.
Horrid.
This is such crap. I can’t believe they would sue two families who have already lost so much. I understand that they were burned and went through SEVERE pain, but people lost their LIVES.
This is absolutely disgusting. Those pilots made a decision based on what they thought would save everyones lives. No pilot makes a decision to take the easy way out when everything, including their OWN lives, are at risk. I can guarantee these pilots made the best decision given their circumstance. Poor training they say? LOL. Maybe these rich assholes should sue the FAA and all of the check airmen who certificated these two pilots throughout their entire careers. These douche bags need to realize that shit happens. What are they trying to prove, other than they’re disgustingly greedy by going after the estates of the pilots? Hello; you’re alive still asshole… out there somewhere there is a son or daughter or spouse who has lost their loved one and you have the audacity to do this? I’ve lost any respect I’ve had for these guys.
