Shia LaBeouf recovers from second hand surgery

More confirmation that Shia LaBeouf really did a number on the hand he injured in the July 27 DUI citation automobile accident. Recently we reported the 21 year old star of “Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” was supposed to star in director Neal Burger’s new feature, “Dark Fields.” Burger, the man behind “The Illusionist” and “The Lucky Ones,” was supposed to start shooting this fall. But the shoot was postponed because LaBeouf had smashed his hand in a car accident last July. He had hand surgery, and the injury was worked into “Transformers 2,” which was held up for a month while the actor recuperated. Shia was supposed to play a man who stumbles on a one of a kind smart pill but eventually had to completely withdraw from the shooting of “Dark Fields” because of further complications to his injured paw.
Sources say Shia’s hand is much worse than anyone thought (totally shattered) and the area around the thumb needs more surgery. According to NY Daily News sources: “For a while there, it didn’t look good. Shia’s tendons had fused together, and right after the accident there was talk of a partial amputation.”
LaBeouf reportedly underwent a second surgery two weeks ago and appears to be on the mend.
“Shia had one surgery postponed for ‘Transformers 2,’ but there’s no additional complications now,” a rep for the actor confirms. “It’s taken a while, but the surgery has been completed and Shia should be healing fine.”
LaBeouf isn’t the only actor to have recent hand-related problems. Ben Stiller was admitted to N.Y.’s Mount Sinai Hospital on Sunday with trauma to his hand. Amidst much secrecy, “one of the hospital’s top hand specialists was called in to treat him,” a snitch on the scene reports. Of the mangled mit his rep had only this to say, “I can confirm that he broke his hand snowboarding.”
