Michael Phelps’ takes new girlfriend to meet the family for Thanksgiving

Seems that Michael Phelps has been doing well for himself in Sin City. People Magazine says the Olympic champ has been dating a Las Vegas cocktail waitress Caroline “Caz” Pal, 26, for about two months. Apparently he likes her well enough to take her to meet the family in Baltimore to spend Thanksgiving together. I couldn’t find any pictures of Ms. Pal, but unfortunately you can bet when the paparazzi hear about this they will be after some photos.
Along with dating Caroline, a waitress at the Palms Casino Resort’s Moon Nightclub, Phelps is spending time in Vegas working on his poker game. Or perhaps he meet Caroline while working on his game in Vegas, we don’t know yet. But he recently made it to the final table of the Caesars Palace Poker Classic, no small accomplishment. And now he’s setting his sites hoping to participate in the 2009 World Series of Poker.
Remember that freaky miracle finish that Michael pulled off to win his seventh gold medal? In an interview with the CBS news show “60 Minutes,” to be broadcast Sunday night, Phelps tells that after winning his sixth gold medal of the Beijing Olympics, he feared he wouldn’t be strong enough to win his seventh. But a mistake by rival Milorad Cavic allowed Phelps to pull out an improbable win in the 100-meter butterfly.
In the fly, Cavic was clearly ahead as the two swimmers approached the wall. The Serbian swimmer glided to the finish with his arms outstretched, while Phelps took an extra half-stroke that gave him the victory by one-hundredth of a second — the smallest possible margin. Phelps pointed to a subtle but crucial mistake by Cavic.
“He’s picking up his head, so it’s acting like a speed bump,” Phelps said, pointing to a picture of the finish. “So he’s coming up and then trying to lift his head before he touches the wall. … (Phelps’ head) is in a straight streamline. So that’s the difference in the race. If his head is down, he wins, hands down wins the race.”
After beating Cavic, the rest was history. Phelps teamed with three other Americans the following day to win the 400 medley relay, breaking Spitz’s record of seven gold medals at the 1972 Munich Games.
