Joaquin Phoenix announces retirement from acting!Joaquin Phoenix gave quite the unexpected scoop to TV show Extra at a Paul Newman benefit on Monday:

“I want to take this opportunity… also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor… I’m not doing films anymore.”

“Extra’s” Jerry Penacoli, shocked by the news, further probed Joaquin. “Are you serious?” Phoenix, who was curiously being followed by his own camera crews, reiterated, “Yeah. I’m working on my music. I’m done. I’ve been through that.”

Actor Casey Affleck, present during the admission, tells “Extra”, “I don’t think he’s kidding. He’s got music and stuff.”

The music and stuff is reported to be an album Joaquin is recording with Tim Burgess of the English alternative rock band The Charlatans. Apparently, Phoenix got the calling after he learned to play the guitar for the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line. Phoenix has been working with Britpop star Tim Burgess , the Charlatans frontman. By the ways that Joaquin to the right with the new beard at the time of this announcement. When his rep was contacted about Phoenix’s proclamation, their response was, “That is what he told me.” Joaquin is a passionate guy and his intention is to now give 100% to his new his music career. And not to be cynical but if he fails like most do trying to break into the music business, he’s always got acting to fall back on.
