Julianne Hough’s ailment last week will require surgery

Posted on October 27th, 2008 by Hot Momma

Julianne Houghs ailment last week will require surgeryJulianne Hough took a trip to the hospital with what was supposed to be stomach trouble after her performance on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” last Tuesday. But the 20-year-old professional dancer, will announce tomorrow the ailment that sent her to the emergency room last week was more than a stomach ache — it’s an ovarian cyst.

TMZ reports she will have surgery to remove the cyst and that she’ll have her appendix taken out at the same time (unrelated to the cyst).

No word on when the surgery will take place or if Julianne who’s partnered with “Hannah Montana” actor Cody Linley, will remain on the show this season.

Julianne is just one of several contestants and professional dancers who have had health concerns this season. Brooke Burke and Susan Lucci have foot injuries. Two weeks ago, Olympic volleyball star Misty May-Treanor ruptured her Achilles tendon and was forced to withdraw. During the first week of the competition, comedian Jeffrey Ross suffered a corneal abrasion when partner Edyta Slwinska’s hand grazed his eye.

Update:  The specific female condition Julianne announced she had on DWTS is endometriosis.  Her specific form of it requires removal of her appendix. Endometriosis, a relatively common-but often painful-medical condition found in 5 percent to 10 percent of women, is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs, such as the appendix, in the pelvis or abdomen.
