Broadway World reports that a secret, closed door reading took place this weekend for the musical Promises, Promises. Several big names in the Broadway world were in attendance, and the reading was done by Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) and Anne Hathaway. According to inside sources, their performance and singing impressed everyone this weekend.

The musical, is actually a comedy based on the film The Apartment by Billy Wilder. The original show ran on Broadway from 1968 until 1972 with a total of 1,281 performances and it has never had a proper revival! To get an idea of Anne Hathaway’s singing skills check out her singing in the video below. I think you will be impressed.

Performed in honor of Stephen Sondheim’s 75th Birthday at the Hollywood Bowl, Anne Hathaway sings Sondheim’s What More Do I Need? (from Saturday Night) followed by a performance of the Opening Doors sequence from Merrily We Roll Along where Hathaway is joined by Eric McCormack (of Will & Grace fame), Alexander Gemignani (Sweeney Todd revival, Les Miserable revival), and Stephanie D’Abruzzo (of Avenue Q). Featuring original Broadway cast member Jason Alexander special appearance by Bernadette Peters. The concert was a benefit for Children Will Listen, a program of the ASCAP Foundation.
