TV News: Rosie O’Donnell Variety hour - Russell Brand gets comedy special
Posted on October 2nd, 2008 by Hot Momma
Rosie O’Donnell is reportedly set to make a return to the talk show world. NBC will air Rosie’s Variety Show, which will be in a format of monologue and feature celebrity guests, musical acts, comedy skits, and a “giant” giveaway for both the in-studio and home audiences.
An hourlong special will air live the night before Thanksgiving, on November 26, and if the ratings are good, there’s a possibility the network might order a full series.
NBC vp alternative Craig Plestis says, “This will reinvent the idea of what a variety show is for 2008. There’s very few performers willing to put themselves out there live. It makes it more TiVo-proof, and it’s something none of the cable networks can do.”
O’Donnell will be executive producer, along with David Friedman from Last Call With Carson Daly.
NBC will even beat out the Osbourne family by premiering the show before Thanksgiving. The Osbournes are said to have a variety show coming up on FOX sometime this winter or spring.
But what makes Rosie’s show stand out from the rest is the fact that her show will be live. That could be interesting!

British comedian Russell Brand who has a huge following in the United Kingdom, continues his invasion into America. After a primo role in a major film, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, he recently served as hosting for this year’s highly rated MTV Music Awards to mixed reviews.
According to a new report, Brand has been contracted Comedy Central to shoot a one-hour stand-up special.
The special will feature Brand and ‘an eclectic roster of special guests’.
The show tape in November (in the NYC) and is slated to air sometime in 2009.
Here’s what the ladies man had to say about the new deal, “Comedy Central is the home of ‘South Park,’ ‘The Daily Show,’ and ‘The Sarah Silverman Program.’ I am thrilled to have such esteemed neighbours — particularly Sarah whom I shall be constantly troubling for cups of sugar and milk, breast milk.”
In case you can’t get enough of Russell, he will appear opposite his buddy Adam Sandler in “Bedtime Stories,” scheduled for release on Christmas Day and is also slated to reprise his role as Aldous Snow in “Get Him to the Greek,” a new Apatow-produced comedy in which the once-sober rock star falls off the wagon before a major gig.
