Whether it was another very lenient California judge or a great defense lawyer but somehow Mackenzie Phillips has dodged jail time for her latest arrest for drug possession. Normally one would think that getting arrested with baggies and balloons of cocaine and heroin in your pants going through airport security as Mackenzie did in August would lead to a long jail sentence? After the bust, she checked herself in for her 10th stint in rehab. Apparently this convinced a judge to order a 18-month drug diversion program after Mackenzie pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge, specifically cocaine. The other charges against Phillips were dismissed and the revolving doors of justice have pretty much set her free as long as she goes to the diversion program. I just can’t imagine the average person getting off so easily but I am very happy for Mackenzie anyway. And one ray of sunshine is these drug diversion programs are pretty effective when suitable candidates are selected. Graduates of a drug diversion program have fewer re-arrests following drug court referral than any of the other outcome groups.

Just thought we would combine a couple of stories that got me thinking of Cougars. While Ivana Trump’s new husband, Rossano Rubicondi, 35, is on a jungle island competing in the Italian reality-TV show “L’Isola dei Famosi,” the feline has been reportedly at play. she’s been hitting the town with a 23-year-old Belgian model, Marius Rusovici. The two were arm in arm at Denise Rich’s cancer charity event last week at Cipriani Wall Street and again Tuesday night at the Rita Hayworth Alzheimer’s Gala at the Waldorf. Certainly understandable that Ivana would want an escort but the “kissing and dancing,” with Marius certainly surprised witnesses. Maybe Ivana, 59, who hasn’t spent much time with her husband since their April wedding,just has a thing for men whose sir names start with ‘RU’? She was introduced to escort/friend Rusovici by her friend Massimo Gargia, who also set her up with husband Rubicondi.

We have some new ‘dirt’ on Friends actress Courteney Cox. She is returning to her sitcom comedy roots with Cougar Town, an ABC pilot in which she stars as a hot 40-year-old mother who’s newly single. Cox who recently anchored the FX drama Dirt and has a development deal with ABC Studios and will exec produce the single-camera comedy with Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, who also is cowriting the pilot. It’s a reteaming of sorts for Cox and Lawrence: Cox shot a three-episode guest arc on Scrubs that is slated to air later this season. Cougar Town is expected to be a candidate for the 2009-2010 schedule.

Madonna and Alex Rodriguez are reportedly going to great lengths to keep their clandestine romance underwraps. I almost said secret romance but that train has left the station long ago. Anyway Madge and A-Rod arranged a little alone time on October 21st by secretly jetted off in separate private helicopters for a quick and cozy rendezvous in the Hamptons.

Soon-to-be-divorced Madge and newly single again A-Rod apparently went straight to Madonna’s close friend Jerry Seinfeld’s waterfront mansion, where they relaxed in luxury.
The twosome who insist they are just friends only stayed at Seinfeld’s 12-acre spread for something like four hours before being shuttled back in separate helicopters again. Clearly these two are not ready to reveal their “alleged” romance right now.

No Doubt’s official website posted a photo of singer Gwen Stefani and former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale’s new baby son, along with this message: “We wanted to share with you the first photo of Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale. Gwen, Gavin, Kingston and Zuma are all doing well and enjoying being a party of four.” Zuma, was born on August 21, 2008, and weighed in at 8.5 lbs,. He joins his 2-year-old brother Kingston. I love that Gwen and Gavin handled things this way. No sellout first photos on the cover of People Magazine, and no desperation now for some crazed photog to get that first pic.

Congratulations to Niki Taylor and Burney Lamar! The supermodel and her race car driver husband are expecting their first child together in March. Taylor, 33, met her husband while the duo was paired together to sign autographs at a charity event.  For Taylor it was apparently love at first sight as she was quoted later saying: “I looked at Burney and said to myself, ‘This is the guy I’m going to marry.’”

They couple married on December 27, 2006, and in lieu of wedding gifts, the couple asked that donations be sent to Victory Junction Gang Camp, a camp for chronically ill children where they continue to work raising money and awareness.

Taylor, who most recently hosted the Bravo series Make Me a Supermodel, is already mom to 13-year-old twin boys Jake and Hunter, from her previous marriage to former football player Matt Martinez.
